01 What we’re building

The infrastructure this trade has never had.

Open, published standards.
Surface prep, materials, ADA, and layout — written down, peer-reviewed, and open for anyone to cite in an RFP or build to on the job.
CPLS — the first real credential.
The Certified Parking Lot Striper credential. Built for the people actually doing the work, owned by the individual, and portable across employers.
A directory property owners can actually use.
CPLS-certified contractors, searchable and verified — so owners can hire a pro instead of guessing off a Google result.
02 Why founding matters

The door is open once.

Founding CPLS candidates sit for the first examination window. Their names are on the first directory. They shape the standard instead of inheriting it. After September 15, 2026, that door closes and doesn’t reopen. If you’ve been striping lots for a living and waiting for someone to build the infrastructure around this trade, this is the window to be inside it.

04 FAQ

Three questions people keep asking.

What is PLSIC?
The Parking Lot Striping Industry Council. A professional standards and credentialing body for the parking lot striping trade. Independent, founded in 2026, based in the United States.
What is CPLS?
The Certified Parking Lot Striper credential. Three levels covering foundational competence, ADA and specialty work, and master-level work. The first examination window is planned for Q3 2026.
Why now, and why you?
Because the trade is worth billions of dollars a year and nobody has ever built the table to write its rules at. PLSIC is that table. Founded by Jonathon Thompson, who spent years at 1-800-STENCIL watching this gap from the supply side.
